Kyra Cane

My porcelain pots are thrown, turned, glazed, drawn and fired to high temperatures.

I respond to the volume, shape and nature of each piece, animating and defining spaces; creating brushmarks which fade and blur, inky opaque bands that change hue. I define and redefine marks, edges and planes until the point when each pot has its own voice.

Making for me is about working with risk, surfaces react to the slightest touch, traces of hand and tool remain, bowls move and twist, materials melt and fuse.
