Clare Crouchman

Clare Crouchman discovered ceramics in 1992 whist travelling in Japan. Returning to the UK she studied MA Ceramics at UWIC, Cardiff and developed her individual technique of inlaying different clays within a two dimensional format.

Her work combines textures ranging from rough grog to smooth, shiny glazed porcelain that create tactile, contrasting surfaces. As well as painting with different stained slips and inlaying different clays, drawing into the clay is a crucial element of her work and is a contemplative process.

Finding order in the chaos of the world is explored through the notions of linear systems, and mathematical patterns.
